The Center for Great Apes is a nonprofit sanctuary founded in 1993, dedicated to providing a permanent home for orangutans and chimpanzees who have been retired from

the entertainment industry, from research, or who are no longer wanted as pets and are not able to be released back into the wild.  The Center provides care with dignity in a

safe, healthy and enriching environment for great apes in need of lifetime care.  What started with 15 acres of tropical wooded habitat surrounded by orange groves has now

grown to over 100 acres.  The apes live and play in large

3-story high domed enclosures, providing plenty of running room, climbing space and height for swinging, as well as attached rooms for sleeping at night and resting during the day away from the hot sun and rainstorms.
