In 1920, William J. Howey purchased 60,000 acres in

Lake County and planted citrus on the majority of his land. Five years later, he became the founder of the town known

as Howey-in-the-Hills. In 1924, he and his wife completed the plans for their permanent home, and by the end of 1927, this architectural gem was finished and ready to move in. 

The home was occupied until 2008, when the current owner died leaving the home abandoned, which then fell into disrepair.  The home was purchased in 2017 by the Cowherd family, who have restored it to its former grandeur to be enjoyed by the general public for tours & weddings.

Following the tour, enjoy lunch at Mission Inn.

Then visit Yalaha German Bakery and Yalaha Bootlegging Company Country Store and Craft Distillery.

at the Winter Park Playhouse. 

Told from the perspective of six women who came of age in the 1960s, this energetic Off-Broadway musical nostalgically recalls the days of miniskirts, transistor radios and

flower power!  Celebrating iconic female artists such as Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Connie Francis, The Shirelles and Lulu, the show features over 30 of the most memorable songs of the era including “My Boyfriend’s Back,”

“Where the Boys Are,” “One Fine Day,”

“Me and Bobby McGee” and many more!

Since opening in 1977, Morikami has been a center for Japanese arts and culture in South Florida. The original building, named the Yamato-kan, is modeled after a

Japanese villa. The principal museum building opened

in 1993 and is inspired by traditional Japanese design.

It features three exhibition galleries, a theater,

an authentic tea house, a museum store, and the

Cornell Cafe with lakeside terraces. The two museums

house more than 7,000 Japanese art objects and artifacts.

The Japanese Gardens provide 16 acres of  strolling paths with resting areas, beautiful flowers and plants, world-class bonsai collection, lakes teeming with koi and other wildlife.
